Tesla Cybertruck is finally here

On Saturday, Tesla announced that the first Cybertruck had rolled off its Austin, Texas gigafactory assembly line. Delivery to customers should start in the next few weeks, but scaling up of production is only expected early next year.

Third party trackers estimate that Tesla has received at least 1.5 million preorders for the Cybertruck. Earlier in the year, Elon Musk estimated that Tesla could produce between 250 000 and 500 000 Cybertrucks a year at a full production pace. It means that Tesla has at least three years' demand for the cars if production reaches the top end of the estimate.

Coincidently, Ford just cut the price of its F-150 Lightning pickup truck, with base model prices being slashed by as much as 17%. The Ford "bakkie" is a direct competitor to Tesla's Cybertruck. Sales of the F-150 Lightning dropped from 13 000 in the second half of 2022 to 8 800 in the first half of 2023, so these price cuts probably have more to do with Ford hoping to juice up sales before getting overtaken.

Tesla is the dominant player in electric vehicles and you ought to own their shares.
