We have already covered Amazon's impressive results, but I wanted to discuss their advertising business in more detail. This was the first time that Amazon broke out advertising revenues as a line item. As it turns out, the business is bigger than YouTube.
Amazon Advertising made revenues of $31 billion last year, up 30% from 2020. YouTube made $28.8 billion in the year. According to Statista the entire global newspaper industry had ad revenues of $29.5 billion in 2021.
Is there a better place to serve ads than on the world's biggest online shop? People are in buying mode and Amazon knows exactly what they are looking for. What a fantastic business.
