Apple Makes $60 Billion From App Store

Apple announced that developers have made over $260 billion cumulatively in revenues since the launch of the App Store in 2008, that's up by a record $60 billion from a year ago. App Store sales during the 2021 holiday season rose by double digits, partly thanks to over 745 million paid subscribers embedded in the Apple ecosystem.

Apple didn't disclose how much it made this time, but the iPhone maker made $1.8 billion in 2020. The tech giant also had its fair share of problems including the legal battles about app store fees with Epic Games and Spotify, which helped the company clean up its act on how to charge these developers.

Some of the data points I enjoyed from the report include the fact that 30 million tickets to access events were stored and used in its Wallet app across the US and Canada alone. The Apple Books app has over 100 million monthly active users.

The Apple App Store is the second-largest app store with roughly 2.3 million available apps for iOS, a number that has been steadily increasing over the years. Below are the commissions charged by Apple from app developers on the App Store. The data is from the time when Apple disclosed its rate.
