Apple v Epic Games

Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers handed-down the decision in the trial between Apple and Epic Games, and issued an injunction saying Apple must no longer prohibit developers from providing links or other communications that direct users away from Apple in-app purchasing.

This means that developers can now direct users to their own websites to subscribe to or buy digital content, taking some sales away from Apple's App Store, which raked in around $64 billion in 2020. The decision ends the first part of the battle between the two companies over App Store policies and whether they're anti-competitive.

While this case was ongoing, Apple made some changes to its App Store policies to aid smaller app developers. The App Store Business Program cuts the commission rate in half for all developers that make less than $1 million a year.

Below are the commissions charged by Apple from app developers on the App Store. The goal should be to lower these rates over time as more and more developers join the App Store network.
