YouTube Shop?

We have covered Facebook's ambitions to become an online retailer in detail. It turns out that another massive tech brand has similar ambitions. According to Bloomberg Google plans to Make YouTube a Major Shopping Destination.

On Youtube you see all sorts of content which can direct you to a product. "How to" videos, product reviews, adverts, gaming, and so much more. If they can implement a feature which allows you to click on the product within the site and purchase it there and then, they could become a big player in online retail.

YouTube has 2 billion logged in monthly users with a big majority of those people aged between 18 and 49 years. 70% of Youtube views are on mobile phones and the average visitor spends at least 11 minutes per day on the site. That is a very captive audience.

This is another reminder that these tech companies are not monopolies, they all compete heavily against each other. At the end of the day the consumer is the winner.
