Amazon Gets Into Game Streaming

Google's gaming streaming service called Stadia has been well documented in the media and in our daily newsletter. The service aims to become the 'Netflix of gaming'. Now Amazon have joined the race after unveiling Luna last week.

Luna will cost $5.99 a month, undercutting Stadia's $9.99 per month fee. Luna Games will be streamed from Amazon's AWS cloud computing infrastructure which is supported by Nvidia's T4 GPUs, the Nvidia Turing Tensor cores and Nvidia's GRID virtualisation drivers -sounds like good news for Nvidia too.

Luna will be made available on PC, Mac, Fire TV, iPhone and iPad. They plan on launching 50 games on the channel to get things started.

As with all these subscription type services the winners will be the ones with the best content, whether it be original or purchased. Amazon has 140 million Twitch subscribers to tap and their AWS infrastructure to leverage off of. It makes sense for them to enter this race.

It is also another reminder that these big tech companies are not monopolies. They all compete heavily against each other in many different departments. At the end of the day, it is the consumer who wins from that situation.
