Nvidia's New RTX 3090

The easiest topic in the book to write about is Nvidia's fancy new GPU chips. For the uninitiated, GPU stands for graphics processing unit. It's time for the latest product update, and here you go!

Nvidia's new RTX 3090 is a $1 499 monster GPU designed for 8K gaming. The 3090 is the top of the range successor to the RTX 2080. It ships with a huge 24GB of GDDR6X memory, whatever that might be.

Nvidia is promising that the RTX 3090 will be capable of 60fps gaming at 8K resolutions. Nvidia is using 10,496 CUDA cores on this puppy, combined with a boost clock of 1.70GHz. That also sounds good!

It is based on Nvidia's Ampere GPU architecture, and promises some impressive performance gains for PC gaming and ray tracing. It has 8K HDR ShadowPlay support. The card will occupy three slots in your tower PC and includes a silencer to make it up to 10 times quieter than their existing cards.

Nvidia stock continues to do well, last trading at about $580 per share. Still a buy.
