I have been following Amazon's foray into India very closely. I went to India in 2017 and it is quite obvious that online retail could explode there. Not to mention a population of 1.2 billion people.
TechCrunch have reported that Amazon is launching an online pharmacy in Bangalore, a city with more than 12 million people. Amazon Pharmacy has now started accepting orders for both over the counter and prescription medicines. The service also includes health devices like nebulisers and glucose meters.
Of course they are playing the "its safer in a pandemic" card which will hopefully keep regulators at bay for the time being. There are already a host of local startups doing online pharmacy deliveries which I am sure the regulators want to protect.
Amazon benefits from the network effect already, they are trusted to get your delivery done properly and efficiently. Delivery of medicine is more sensitive than normal. I suspect they will succeed in this area all over the globe.
