Apple - iOS14 & New Chips

At the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference yesterday, Apple announced that the chips in the new Macs shipped later this year will be made in-house. The Intel x86 chips previously used will be phased out over a period of 2 years.

Some analysts reckon that this could result in an annual saving of $2.7bn. That is a lot of money. In a tough consumer environment, I wonder if that will help Apple price their Macs lower? Or will they take all the margin? Probably a bit of both.

They also introduced IOS 14, which has convenient folders for sorting apps and a simplified Siri user interface. The new Watch operating system has a feature that will detect when you are washing your hands and will notify you when you have washed them for long enough, a nice COVID-19 healthcare gimmick.

Apple continues to work hard behind the scenes to keep the experience feeling fresh. The share is trading at all-time highs above $360. In tough times quality really shines through.
