Tesla is Supplying Powerwalls to Zimbabwe

I find it fascinating how some developing nations jump straight to modern, more efficient solutions, skipping old legacy methods still being used in developed markets.

This Bloomberg article talks about how Tesla Batteries Are Keeping Zimbabwe's Economy Running. Econet, who is the main telecommunications company in that country, have been installing the Powerwall batteries to keep people connected during electricity cuts. Tough times calls for innovative solutions.

As the article points out, telecoms is the lifeblood of the economy. Even the majority of banking is taking place through phones; another example of more efficient technology being used by developing nations.

The project has resulted in 520 Powerwalls being purchased by Econet. No wonder we cannot buy them down here in SA! The company has over 1 300 base stations and the project could be rolled out in other African countries with similar power challenges.

I have long believed that batteries will play a huge part in our future. Tesla seem to be streets ahead in battery technology. The company is not just about cars.
