Amazon is rumoured to launch new grocery store business in a quest to conquer the world. The company has already clocked online shopping, cloud computing, streaming and has put in a lot of work into advertising and healthcare.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the e-commerce giant is said to be planning to launch a bunch of brick-and-mortar retail stores in Los Angeles later in the 2019 financial year. Amazon is already in the food retail business with its $13.7 billion acquisition of John Mackey's Whole Foods in 2017.
Apparently the new retail chains are going to be very different from Whole Foods; does this mean Amazon is coming for Dollar Stores like Dollar General and Dollar Tree? Only time will tell. I find it quite fascinating that a business that has shown tremendous success in online retail is pursuing brick-and-mortar this aggressively.
