Meta unveils Quest 3

Meta Platforms has unveiled the latest version of its mixed-reality headset, the Meta Quest 3, as a lower-cost alternative to the upcoming headset expected from Apple.

Priced at $500, the Meta Quest 3 will be available in the third quarter. The company will continue selling the Quest 2 at a reduced price of $300 to make virtual reality (VR) more accessible to a wider audience.

Apple is set to reveal its own headset during its Worldwide Developers Conference, there's speculation that it will be more powerful but significantly more expensive, expected to cost around $3 000. That sounds excessive, but let's wait and see.

While Meta currently dominates the VR headset market, it aims to gain mainstream acceptance and believes VR headsets are crucial to its vision of the metaverse, a connected online world where people can live, work, and play.
