McDonald's - Fresh Meat Paying Off

McDonald's is selling more Quarter Pounders than ever, because the company stopped selling frozen patties and moved to using fresh meat. According to the company, sales were up 30% year-on-year since the switch, allowing them to compete with never-frozen rivals like In-N-Out, Smashburger, and Wendy's.

In the first quarter of the 2019 financial year, McDonald's sold over 40 million Quarter Pounds as compared to the first quarter of 2018. In the recent past, the company also tried changing up to new "signature crafted recipes", but the sales were nothing to write home about. Fixing an existing top seller by shifting to fresh beef patties was a game changer.

The company is also moving slowly into meatless alternatives for more conscious eaters who also care about the environment. This is a reactive move, after several food chains like Burger King introduced a meatless patty, creating the Impossible Burger. Thank you Beyond Meat, very cool.
