According to the BBC, elite runner Eliud Kipchoge will have another go at breaking the two-hour marathon ceiling. The 34-year-old Kenyan just won the London Marathon last month with a time of 2:02.38, the second-fastest official time in history.
Kipchoge holds the marathon world record with a time of 2:01:39 which he set in September 2018 in the beautiful Berlin Marathon. However, Kipchoge's fastest recorded time is 2:00.25 in the Nike Breaking 2 special. This amazing performance doesn't qualify for a world record because he used pacers for efficiency.
His next attempt to breaking the 2-hour barrier is going to take place between September or October in a secret location (I think they're still working this bit out). Remember this sub 2 hours, 42.2km event is a great marketing tool for Nike and Kipchoge as they get the opportunity to introduce more Nike gear.
This brings us back to our strategic investment in nutrition, health, and wellness companies like Nike. When such an event takes place, the company gets to move more product in that specific category, which in the long-term leads to improved brand value and shareholder value.
