Facebook's Facelift

Last week Tuesday was a big day for Facebook. They had their annual developer conference during a time where the company's potential negative influence on society is the main focus. You may have noticed already that the newsfeed has been redesigned. The design encourages more sharing within the private realms of Messenger and Whatsapp.

More importantly, Facebook and Instagram have targeted Stories as a big advertising platform. Stories pop up on your screen and then disappear. This makes it a lot harder to share fake news. Mark Zuckerberg even said that they expect stories to overtake newsfeed posts in 2019.

The update also includes integrated shipping and payment capabilities in Marketplace. This feature has a lot of potential because the buyer and purchaser are already verified through their profiles. It is quite easy to see a fake account, although not impossible to be duped.

I feel like the company is heading in the right direction. It is still incredibly profitable and we feel it will continue to thrive as it adapts to the changing responsibilities of mass scale.
