Stryker buys HyperBranch Medical Technology

Byron's Beats

Stryker have made another bolt on acquisition. Excuse the pun. This time they have purchased privately held HyperBranch Medical Technology for $220 million. According to the release.

"HyperBranch is dedicated to developing medical devices based on its proprietary polymers and cross-linked hydrogels. Its Adherus AutoSpray Dural Sealant product is one of only two FDA-approved dural sealants on the market."

In layman terms, the hydrogel is excellent for watertight repairs, whether it be the spine, skull or facial. This makes sense for a company that supplies equipment for invasive procedures. If you supply the knife that cuts, you may as well supply the sealant that closes.

Again, we support this strategy that Stryker have adopted. The tech within the healthcare space is very impressive but is often only noticed (and understood) by those in the field. Stryker are lapping up all these small, innovative companies along with those company's patents, which keeps them in a very competitive position within this fast moving space.
