Facebook takes Wifi to EM

Capitalism often results in very positive outcomes for mankind, even though the company itself is looking after its own interests. A great example of this is how Facebook want the whole world to be connected. The more people who have access to the internet the more users they can get. And of course, access to the internet is the ultimate leveller.

This CNBC article spells out their plans to connect the developing world. Express Wi-Fi, started in 2015, is currently available in India, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania. The program provides funding to companies who are providing wi-fi infrastructure. Selected businesses then supply wi-fi hotspots through pay as you go facilities. Sounds like a solid plan of partnering with local operators where everyone wins.
