Apple launches the iPad 3. Or new iPad

Apple launched their much anticipated new iPad yesterday. The only negative comment I saw immediately about the device was old Bloomberg journalist Lizzie O'Leary who said that she did not fancy FaceTime on the device. Meaning that the clarity of the new iPad is so awesome that she would prefer using fewer pixels when speaking via video, because it would show up every flaw. Which is, I am guessing is a good thing to have a whole lot more clarity. And the 3.1 million pixel display in the same place has as much as 44 percent better colour saturation according to the official release documents on the Apple website. Know what that means? Super duper amazing clarity compared to what is awesome clarity in the first place.

The new version of the best selling tablet of all time will not only have this awesome clarity, but also be much quicker, the chip is also amazing (A5X), and it is set to have increased wireless speeds too. The camera and video look good too, a five mega pixel iSight camera (seems a bit light in that department but is not in reality) and the 1080p HD video, the same as the last phone round out the device nicely. Instead of calling the new iPad revolutionary (with tendencies missing) it has cleverly been called Resolutionary. Which is an invented word. Clever.

And also changing and potentially firing a shot across the bow of Netflix is the announcement that iCloud would launch a video service of sorts. That would be available on all operating systems. Airplay. Through Apple TV which is still their cheapest device. Looks amazing.

What is possibly also a kick in the guts of their competitors is that the older version, the iPad 2, is set to fall in price. In the same way that the iPhone versions prior to the launch of the newest model would also be cheaper. Enticing newer customers to their already amazing tablet dominance. Apple effectively have three quarters of the market. And have already sold 55 million tablets which account for an astonishing 20 percent of all their sales. Reminder, this product is not really that old, it is less than two years old.

And applications? Well just the other day we saw that Apple had announced that 25 billion apps had been downloaded from the app store. Three and a bit apps per person on the planet. Amazing. Whilst apps are the least exciting selling point, once you are in the zone you are hooked. And more importantly there are many business applications that are starting to be embraced by companies. In fact as a company across all of your Apple users you can get a discount on a company app. Amazing. Iamazed. Remember when people used to refer to the Blackberry as the only handset for business. I saw one this morning. Never used a RIM device. What comes after M and then after N? P of course. RIP RIM. I am kidding!

The only thing that people thought was missing was that Siri was not integrated on the new device, but there is a microphone that you can dictate to the iPad. This is something that I am absolutely desperate for, can you imagine how much shorter my typing time would be.

Perhaps the reason that the share price did not jump much higher is because Mr Market would be expecting something big from Apple TV. And I am sure that it is coming. They want more, they are what I refer to as the Oliver Twist crowd. I have no doubt that the pre orders and take up of the new product will be a record for the iPad, everyone knows that they are an absolute magic device. I am expecting that this launch and the making cheaper of the iPad 2 devices will again cement their place as the worlds largest PC and tablet maker this year. When is the Apple console coming? Or is it going to be here with Apple TV? iWatch this space.
