The amazing power of Google search

Yesterday, I wrote about Google and their fight with the US Department of Justice. Today I'm looking at the amazing power of Google search. This post on their in-house blog has the title 'Think with Google', and I was struck by how easily they can monetise their user data.

Google tracks consumer online behaviour, especially in what they call the "messy middle", the time between when a user finds an item online, and actually buying it. Thinking back on my own online purchases, that matches my experience - quite messy, with some back and forth before deciding to proceed.

Google is working directly with marketers to increase consumer confidence during that period. And of course they have all the behavioural data from hundreds of millions of people. They know what works. This is just another huge value add that Google brings to online advertisers.
