Apple are very good at making accessories that are used alongside their core products. Think of all the Apple chargers, power cords, earphones and phone covers that Apple fans must buy.
According to CNBC Apple have announced a $99 battery pack that snaps onto the back of the iPhone 12 with a magnet. Battery life is crucial these days, the extra 50% capacity will be worth the cost of the $99 unit for millions of people, I presume.
Many consumers complain about the battery life of smartphones. What they don't realise is how much more they use their phones due to all the high tech, battery-intensive functionalities introduced in recent years. Watching three episodes of your favourite Netflix show in HD while waiting in a line at Home Affairs eats up lot more battery life than your old Nokia 3310.
It is tough for any new product to move the Apple needle these days. But they do need to keep the accessories coming to maintain that superior Apple experience.
