Microsoft In Talks With Discord

Microsoft is said to be one of the suitors in talks to buy the communications and voice-chat platform Discord. They could pay as much as $10 billion. The social media platform has over 140 million monthly active users and was last valued at $7 billion when it raised $140 million in December 2020.

The San Fransisco-based company, popular among gamers, branched out of gaming during the hard lockdowns of 2020. Today, Discord is used by study groups, book clubs, people throwing birthday parties and online communities like WallStreetBets.

Discord was founded in 2015 by Jason Citron and Stan Vishnevskiy, who share a love for gaming. Their goal was to solve the problem of reliable communication with friends while playing a game live online.

The company recently appointed its first CFO, Tomasz Marcinkowski, who was the former head of finance for Pinterest. The question is whether Microsoft is getting a fair price for Discord. I think they are considering how frothy IPOs have been of late. Let's see if Microsoft can close this deal!
